Most everyday coins spend at face value
State quarters, including the 2003 Illinois quarter with young Lincoln on the back, are worth 25 cents unless they are silver proofs. So are most dimes, quarters and halves dated 1965 and later.

Jackson Park, 1893
Coins with a Chicago story
Chicago hosted the World's Columbian Exposition in 1893, and the U.S. Mint struck coins to sell at the fair. Families here still find them in old collections, often next to notes from Chicago banks. Most are worth more than their silver.

Isabella quarter
Sold at the World's Columbian Exposition in Jackson Park. Only about 24,000 were sold, and collectors pay well above its silver value.

Columbian half dollar
The first U.S. commemorative coin, sold at the fair for $1 each. Common in worn condition, but sharp ones bring a premium.

Illinois Centennial half dollar
Lincoln on the front, an eagle from the Illinois state seal on the back. About 100,000 were struck for the state's 100th birthday.

Should I clean my coins before I sell them?
No. Cleaning scrubs off the original surface, and collectors pay far less for a cleaned coin. Leave each coin as you found it, in its holder or album if it has one.
Do you pay cash?
Yes. We pay cash at the appointment, and we wire larger sales to your bank the same business day.
How do I sell an inherited coin collection?
Keep the coins together and unsorted, and call before you move anything heavy. We go through the collection with you and give the family an item-by-item written offer to review.
Is my Columbian half dollar worth much?
It depends on condition. Worn 1892 and 1893 Columbian halves sell for a little more than their silver. Coins with sharp detail and original luster bring more, and the 1893 Isabella quarter from the same fair sells well above its silver value in any grade.
Do I have to sell if I book an appointment?
No. The appraisal is free. You can decline, keep everything and take the written offer with you.
What should I bring to my appointment?
Bring the coins, bullion or gold as they are, in their holders, albums and boxes, plus a government-issued photo ID if you plan to sell. Old receipts or paperwork help too.
