What we buy

Sell Rare & Certified Coins in Chicago, IL

The genuinely valuable material in most collections is rarely the shiniest, and identifying it takes someone who reads coins for a living rather than a counter that only knows weight. We buy keys, graded coins, mint errors, and early American issues, and every figure traces back to published data.

Nobody expects you to know which of your coins are the important ones. Bring them to our office south of the Loop, and we will separate the collector pieces from the rest, explain what elevates each one, and put it all in writing.

The rare and certified coins we take

  • PCGS, NGC, and ANACS holdered coins at any grade
  • Key and semi-key years across the U.S. series

  • Early copper: large cents, half cents, and colonial pieces
  • Type coins, Seated and Barber issues, and complete albums

How rare coins get valued

A holdered coin arrives with its grade already settled by a third party, so we can go straight to the PCGS Price Guide, the CDN Greysheet, and recent hammer prices for that precise year and grade.

An ungraded rarity takes more judgment. We assess the year, mint, and preservation ourselves and price a shade more cautiously, since the authentication risk shifts to us. When a raw coin is valuable enough that certification would pay for itself, we say so instead of quietly buying it cheap.

FAQ

Sell Rare & Certified Coins in Chicago, IL: common questions

How is a rare coin’s value established?

Holdered coins are checked against the PCGS Guide, the Greysheet, and recent auction results for that exact year and grade. Raw coins are graded conservatively and measured against the same sources, and we share the comparables with you.

Is it worth grading coins before I sell?

For the great majority, no, since raw coins are appraised here daily and fees would outweigh any gain. For a few genuinely valuable pieces it can pay off, and we will point that out rather than keep it to ourselves.

Do you handle error coins and varieties?

Yes. Verified mint errors and catalogued varieties can carry real premiums. Bring them along and we will confirm what you have and price it against the current market.
