What we buy
Sell Gold Coins in Chicago, IL
Gold coins move on numbers everybody can check, which makes them one of the more comfortable things to sell. Bring a single piece or a whole box to our office south of the Loop, watch the appraisal happen, and leave the same day with cash or a wire.
What varies is whether a coin trades purely on its gold or carries something extra for its date and condition. We look at both before quoting, so a scarce older piece is never handed back a bullion number.

What sets the price on a gold coin
For a modern bullion coin, the math is direct. Take the coin’s true gold weight, apply the live spot price, and add whatever premium that particular coin commands in the market that day. Clean, familiar coins in quantity earn the narrowest spread.
Older American gold behaves less like metal and more like a collectible. Here the year, the mint that struck it, and the state of preservation frequently matter more than the ounce, and a well-preserved or genuinely scarce example can clear melt several times over. Anything already sealed by PCGS or NGC gets priced against published guides and completed auction records.

FAQ
Sell Gold Coins in Chicago, IL: common questions
What can I expect for a one-ounce Gold Eagle?
The figure comes from the live gold price applied to the coin’s ounce of gold, plus its going premium. Because that moves through the trading day, ring 773-241-8624 for the current number or stop in for a firm quote.
Is my old American gold worth more than its metal?
Frequently it is. Liberty, Indian, and Saint-Gaudens pieces regularly clear melt, and better years and conditions do so by a wide margin. Each coin gets assessed individually rather than lumped into a metal price.
What is the advantage of selling gold coins in person?
You keep the coins until a number is agreed, you see how that number was reached, and you are paid that day. Shipping gold introduces loss risk and insurance ceilings, and it leaves you waiting on someone else’s timetable.
